CHP Set to Start Maximum Enforcement Period

Many drivers will travel on California’s busy freeways this upcoming Memorial Day weekend. Today, here at Slice of Appel PI, we would like to reiterate this week’s announcement from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) that this weekend will be designated as a maximum enforcement period. So please remember for those heading out on road, don’t forget to buckle up, be sure to designate a driver and make sure to eliminate all distractions while driving.

Last year, there were approximately 40 people who were killed in motor vehicle collisions in California during Memorial Day weekend. This represents a 60 percent increase from the same period in 2012. Among those who died within CHP jurisdiction, 40 percent were not wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision. Also, during this enforcement period, last year, the CHP made more than 1,200 arrests for driving under the influence.

These alarming statistics are worth sharing as the weekend begins this evening. Thanks for reading Slice of Appel PI and we hope you continue to read and share our blog with others. We hope you have a wonderful holiday weekend!
